Qipao Care Guide

Thank you for choosing Yunwanqian Cheongsam (Qipao). The craftsmanship of a cheongsam is intricate and delicate. To preserve its shape, elegance, and longevity, we recommend professional dry cleaning for all fabric types.

Please follow this detailed maintenance guide:

I. Washing Methods

All Fabrics: Professional dry cleaning is the preferred method to prevent deformation, fading, or damage to embellishments caused by water washing.

If Hand Washing (Only for specific fabrics, proceed with caution):

-  Silk / Xiangyunsha (Gambiered Gauze) / Acetate: Use cold water with a specialized neutral detergent. Gently press without scrubbing or wringing. Complete the process within 5 minutes.

-  Linen: Soak briefly in cold water and wash gently by hand; avoid friction.

-  Wool / Song Brocade: Strictly no water washing. Dry clean only.

  • Pro Tip: You do not need to wash your cheongsam after every wear. We suggest using a garment steamer to blow through the inside of the garment after use, then hanging it inside-out in a cool, ventilated area for a few days.

II. Drying Methods

-  All Fabrics: Lay flat to dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight or tumble drying.

-  Silk / Xiangyunsha: Dry inside-out to prevent aging caused by light exposure.

-  Wool: Lay flat on a ventilated surface to prevent stretching or deformation from hanging.

III. Ironing Techniques

Low to Medium Heat (Except Wool):

-  Silk / Acetate: Iron on the reverse side through a pressing cloth at temperatures $\le 120^\circ\text{C}$.

-  Xiangyunsha / Linen: Iron on the reverse side at medium heat to maintain smoothness.

-  Song Brocade: Use low-temperature steam on the reverse side; avoid direct contact with the iron.

-  Wool: Use medium heat with a damp pressing cloth. Do not press directly on embroidery, beads, or sequins.

IV. Storage Essentials

-  Clean Before Storage: Ensure the garment is free of stains and moisture before putting it away.

-  Hanging: Use wide-shouldered hangers to prevent shoulder deformation. Note: Wool cheongsams should be folded and laid flat.

-  Moisture & Pest Control: Place moisture absorbers or camphor wood in the wardrobe; keep away from harsh chemicals.

-  Light Protection: Wrap dark-colored fabrics in acid-free paper to prevent fading.
